Poor detergent dispenser design

Have had my Maytag MHW8200FCO washing machine about 18 months. Just as the other reviewer, this dispenser that comes with the machine is filling with water. Also as the other reviewer I have a newer machine that now will only work with powdered detergent. Paying to replace this dispenser would be a waste of money as surely it will only do the same thing again. I would not recommend this dispenser nor the machine as you will end up with a new machine that only uses powered detergent. Disappointed in my purchase. I called and the only resolution I was offered was to schedule a service call at my expense. I don't need a serviceman to lift out the defective dispenser and drop in a new one.

water filling up detergent dispenser cartridge

Around 1 year after buying our MHW8200FW0 Maytag washer, we noticed the detergent dispenser cartridge containing dilute detergent after a few refilling and a few washes. So we had to start using powdered detergent and stop using this cartridge. Messy but no other choice.
The cartridge shows no signs of cracks. If filled with water & tipped over with the lid closed, the contents start leaking around the lid so perhaps adding a seal to prevent water getting INTO the cartridge during wash cycle would have been helpful Maytag -- poor design IMHO. After all it was one of the main reasons we bought this particular washer for $899+tax! Of course we are just out of warranty now and feel this is a bit too soon for this pricey washer to start failing like this.
